Wrestling 2013-01-10 vs Pilchuck

Thursday evening the Wildcat wrestling team hosted yet another dual meet, this time against Marysville-Pilchuck.

The JV team wrestled a total of 17 matches - 14 against Pilchuck and 3 exhibition matches.  The JV portion of the meet started poorly for Oak Harbor, with Wildcat wrestlers losing the first 5 bouts by pinfall, then picked up first-round pins by Montana Black (0:54) and Kekai Tarrant (0:45).  Josh Jansen, in his home debut, needed 57 seconds to pin his opponent.  Matt Zafra went to the second round before pinning his opponent to wrap up the JV victories.

In exhibition action, two of the three matches went to overtime.  Kylene Ayer and Tricia Desquitado wrestled to a 4-4 tie with Tricia getting the first points in sudden victory overtime to win.  Olivia Hunt and Aimee Oliver also ended regulation in a tie, 5-5, with Aimee getting a takedown in OT for the win.  In the final JV match of the day, Martin Powers pinned Richard Robinson in 1:19.

Varsity started with the big guys.  Jacob Dugin, at 195 lbs, was first on the mat.  He got in trouble early and ended the first round down 7-2.  He came back in a big way, scoring a reverse and near fall before pinning his opponent in 3:25.  That match may have decided the meet.

Next was Terry Joll, also making his home debut this year.  He was down 4-1 in the first but closed to 6-4 in the 2nd.  In the final period, down 11-7, he scored a reverse to make it 11-9, but the clock wound down before he could score any near-fall points.  It was an exciting match all the way.

Oak Harbor lost 4 of the next 5 matches, putting the Tommies in the lead 22-12, but the 'Cats were getting into the meat of their lineup.  Reeling off 6 straight wins (Jahleel Vester, Jacob Fitzgerald, Cody Fakkema, Mark Johnston and Josh Crebbin), 3 of them by pinfall (Vester, Johnston, Crebbin), the Wildcats regained the lead 39-22 and were guaranteed the team victory.

OH lost the final two matches by carried the day with a 39-34 team score.
