Well, at least they got to run at home.

Hosting their only home meet of the season Thursday, Oct. 8, the Oak Harbor High School cross country runners spent much of the afternoon chasing after fleet-footed visitors.

With Glacier Peak, Arlington and Edmonds-Woodway on hand, the competition was intense, and, while the Wildcats didn't come away with any wins, they did acquit themselves well.

Glacier Peak's Heidi Smith won the girls' race, covering 5,000 meters in 18 minutes, 52 seconds, while Nathan Beamer of Arlington (16:02) won the boys' battle.

Alexis Smith (17th), Jake Hucko (14th) and Benjamin Gasper (10th in the JV race) were the top Wildcat finishers.
