FB 2015-10-02 at Arlington

by David Svien

All good things must come to an end.

The Oak Harbor High School football squad hadn't lost to anyone in conference play other than perennial power Marysville-Pilchuck since 2011 entering Friday's game at Arlington.

Now, that streak is done.

Surrendering 35 unanswered points on a rain-drenched night, the Wildcats blew a 21-3 lead and fell 38-21 on the road, dropping their record to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in Wesco North play.

Arlington and MP sit atop the standings at 2-0.

The Eagles blasted Oak Harbor with a potent passing attack, which surprisingly got more effective the more it rained, which is generally the opposite of how that works.

Arlington gunslinger Andrew Kalahar overcome a slow start, in which he completed three of 10 passes, to get red-hot. He finished on a 25-for-32 run from the second quarter on, running up nearly 400 yards of offense on his way to tossing for five touchdowns.

It was a radical turn for a game that started firmly in Oak Harbor's favor.

The 'Cats opened the scoring by driving 81 yards on their first possession, with Tyler Snavely hitting Dyllan Harris with a 12-yard bomb to cap things.

After another strong scoring drive of 68 yards, Oak Harbor seemed to bust the game open when Princeton Lollar blasted in on a short touchdown run to make it 21-3.

His score was set up by a 42-yard run from Savion Passmore, who brought the ball down to the three-yard line before Arlington tacklers rode him down.

But, just as hopes of ruining Arlington's Homecoming were catching fire, Kalahar emerged to save the day for the hosts.

He responded to Lollar's score with a 71-yard scoring strike of his own on the very next play, then kept on flingin'.

Oak Harbor's own offense suddenly sputtered out, turning over the ball on downs every time it had possession in the second half, and mustering little of a comeback.

Passmore provided a brief spark near the end, returning a fumble 51 yards to the Arlington five-yard line.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats promptly went four-and-out from there to cap their second half frustrations.

Lollar led the running game, racking up 136 yards on 22 carries, while Passmore added 65 yards and Harris gutted out 64.

The Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 9 when they host Marysville Getchell (0-2, 1-4).
