Wildcats get some air during the JV and Freshman games Tuesday night.
Mt. Vernon came to town Tuesday night and played 3 close games against the Wildcats.
Starting in the dome the OH Freshmen were looking for their first win of the season. They ended the 1st quarter with an 11-8 lead and were down by only 2 points, 20-18 at halftime. Mt. Vernon pulled ahead in the 3rd, 30-23 then poured it on in the final quarter to defeat the Wildcats 46-32.
TJ Passmore led the scoring with 8 points, Matt Jones close behind with 7. Jacob Pender and Ozell Jackson finished with 4 each, Taesen Harding and Joseph Arinaza 3 each, Gabe Salinger 2 and Weston Whitefoot 1.

In the main gym, it seemed that Coach McLeod's goal for the game was to find out how big of a deficit his team could climb out of. At the end of the 1st quarter, Mt. Vernon led 19-2, and the Bulldogs increased the lead early in the 2nd. Oak Harbor climbed to within 5 points in the 2nd, but trailed 36-23 at halftime. In the 3rd, MV surged ahead, leading 55-37 at the horn, but against Oak Harbor came back, cutting the lead down to single digits. In the end, though, it was just too much of a hole and Oak Harbor JV fell 66-56.
Josh Cote led the JV team with 17 before leaving the game due to foul trouble. Adam Nelson scored 9, Preston Rankin and and James Lage 8 each. Ty Baker had 5, Kurtis Zylstra 3, Justin Ellison and Eli Loera 2 each.

The varsity game was a low-scoring affair. It took nearly 3 minutes for either team to score, but after breaking the ice, both teams scored 11 in the 1st quarter. Oak Harbor outscored Mt. Vernon 15-8 in the 2nd to take a 26-19 halftime lead.
The shooting for both teams went cold in the 3rd quarter, with the Bulldogs scoring 8 points and the Wildcats only 5. The quarter ended with OH still leading, but now only 31-27. Mt. Vernon grabbed the lead with about 3 minutes remaining and were able to hold on to squeak out a 43-41 win over Oak Harbor.
While Dyllan Harris led the team with 9 points, the point machine was held to just a single bucket from the floor. All the rest of his points came from the free throw line. Jake Sturdevant was effective in the paint with 8 points, Sean Erskine scored 7, Diangelo McKinney 6 and Zach Jones 5. David Ray, Anthony Powell and Ben Fikse each scored 2.

That was the last home game for the year. The next time the boys play at home will be January 13th, hosting the Arlington Eagles.
