Wrestling 2014-12-04 at Stanwood

Jeremy Vester nears a pin against Lynnwood's Nate Paulson near the end of the 2nd round.

Oak Harbor kicked off the 2014-2015 wrestling season with a trip to Stanwood to face off in a double dual against Shorewood and Lynnwood.

The Wildcats start the season ranked #10 in 3A as a team, with 4 individual wrestlers in the top 10 (Christian Bertram #6, Jeremy Vester #2, Mark Johnston #5 and Jackson Constant #5)

First up for the Wildcats was Lynnwood, who is wrestling with a depleted roster (only 1 JV wrestler), and the Wildcats dominated, winning 60-18.

Freshmen Robert Pennington and Michael Lym, Sophomore Nick Dugin, Juniors Garrett Stahl and Dimond Piper, and Seniors Christian Bertram and Jeremy Vester all won by pin.  Junior Isabel Garcia and Sophomore Camron Robards both won by forfeit.  Seniors Mark Johnston won 8-6 and Senior Jackson Constant won 15-12.

Dimond Piper prepares to start the 2nd round of his match against Shorewood'sSam Dedinsky.  Piper won by pin early in the round.

The second half of the meet didn't go as well for OH, falling 44-34 to Shorewood.  Shorewood has 3 wrestlers ranked in the top 10.

Piper, Bertram and Lym all recorded their 2nd pin of the night, but Shorewood was able to pin 6 Wildcats.

Constant faced off against Erca Erdenbayer, ranked #9 in the state.  It was a hard-fought match, but Erdenbayer was able to get Jackson pinned in the 2nd round.

Vester also faced a ranked opponent, Senior Erik Harris-Uldall, but Harris-Uldall injury defaulted late in the 1st round with Vester leading 2-1.

Shorewood's final ranked wrestler, Braden Kalloway (#8), lost to Johnston 12-3.

Due to the double-dual format, most of the photos are of the varsity wrestlers.
