Girls Tennis update

The varsity squad split their matches last week, losing to Shorecrest 3-4 but beating Pilchuck 4-3 to finish the regular season.

In the final home match, the 'Cats won 3 of 4 singles matches and picked up a win at 2nd doubles for the team victory.  McKenzie Perry won 6-1, 6-4 at 1st singles, AnnaBelle Whitefoot 7-6(7), 6-3) at 2nd and Faith Franssen won at 3rd singles in a marathon 7-5, 6-7(4), 7-6(3) victory.  At 2nd doubles ti was Chelsea Admire and Erina Horikawa in a 3-set, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win.

Away at Shorecrest for the final meet of the season, the Wildcats again won at the first 3 singles spots, but could not get a doubles victory, although Hannah Gluth and Erina Horikawa at 3rd doubles almost got a 2nd set win before falling 4-6, 6-7(4).  Perry won 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, Whitefoot 6-1, 6-3 and Cat Amsler 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

The varsity squad ended the season with a 5-8 league record (8-8 overall) and 3rd place in the Wesco 3A North.

In JV action, the Cats ended the season on a 4-0 run, winning their final match with a 7-0 whipping of visiting Pilchuck.

Starting on 4/29, the JV gals won 5-2 at Shorewood, with Tamia Rios (1st singles), Emma Lerch (2nd singles), Noelle Gasper (3rd singles), Elma Empinado & Brianne Deguman (2nd doubles) and Lauren May & Emily Brown (3rd singles) all getting the win.

On the road again on May 1st, the girls beat Getchell, also by a 5-2 score, but this time sweeping doubles play.

At home against Shorecrest on May 5th, the only Wildcat loss was at 4th singles.

In the final shellacking of the Tommies, Rios won 6-2, 6-2, Lerch won 6-2, 6-0, Gasper won 6-7, 6-1, 10-4, Laruen Aspery won 6-1, 6-2.  In doubles play, Julia Smith and Aeilzah Espirtu won 6-2, 6-0, Empinado & Deguman won 6-3, 6-2 and May & Brown won 6-0, 6-1.

The JV team ended the season 8-8 overall, 7-6 in league and finished in 3rd place.

Post-season play gets underway today at Stanwood HS with the Wesco 3A North tournament, then the District tournament on May 20th and 21st, also at Stanwood, then ending with the State meet May 30th and 31st in the Tri-Cities.
