Girls Tennis - week ending 5-3

This past week was busy for the Wildcat tennis team.  In addition to 3 regularly scheduled matches, they had to completed a rain-interrupted match from earlier in the season.

Monday the 28th the Varsity squad hosted the Stanwood Spartans and were swept 7-0 in straight sets all the way through the lineup.

Tuesday was no better, with another 7-0 loss in straight sets.  2nd doubles Chelsea Admire and Hannah Gluth came close to winning their 2nd set, taking it to 5 tiebreakers before losing 7-6(5).

Thursday the Getchell Chargers came to Oak Harbor.  Before starting the scheduled match, the Wildcats had to complete the rain-delayed match from March 25th, that was in-progress.

The in-progress match was marred by several missing/injured players.  As a result, one Getchell and two OH matches were forfeit wins.

In the end, Getchell won at 1st singles as Jamie Estrella was on crutches and unable to compete which accounted for the OH forfeit.  Faith Franssen at 2nd singles and Cat Amsler and Ellysa Bonganay at 2nd doubles won the other forfeit.

Of the matches played, Oak Harbor swep. AnnaBelle Whitefoot won at 3rd singles 6-3, 6-2, Hannah Gluth at 4th singles 6-3, 6-0, Chelsea Admire and Alyssa Eden at 1st doubles won as did Ria Bains and Jastine Sanches at 3rd doubles.

In the regular match, Getchell won at 1st singles and 1st doubles, while OH won all the others.

Whitefoot moved to 2nd singles and won 6-2, 6-4, Franssen won at 3rd doubles 6-2, 6-0, Cat Amsler won at 4th doubles 6-0, 6-2.  In doubles Admire and Gluth were at 2nd doubles and won 6-2, 6-2, and Bonganay teamed with Erina Horikawa at 3rd doubles for a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Individual JV results are not available, but in teams scores last week the Wildcats lost to Stanwood 6-1, then beat Shorewood 5-2 and Getchell 5-2.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Wildcats are in 3rd place with a 4-7 league play record.

Next week both the JV and Varsity squads play twice, with both varsity matches on the road and both JV at home.  Monday the 5th it's Shorecrest (3-6 varsity, 2-6 JV) and on Wednesday the 7th it's Pilchuck (1-9 varsity, 3-6 JV).

The league tournament will be March 13th & 14th at Stanwood HS.

No tennis photos this week, but there will be JV photos from the Pilchuck match.
