FB 2013-10-16 Freshmen vs Mt. Vernon

Turnovers were the name of the game Wednesday evening at OHHS as the Wildcat freshman football team turned the ball over 7 times and Mt. Vernon 3 times.  Oak Harbor had 5 fumbles, 1 interception and one bad snap on a FG attempt.  Mt. Vernon fumbled the ball 3 times.  At one point in the 3rd quarter, there were 3 turnovers in just 4 plays.

In the end, though, the Wildcats did what they needed to do to win 13-7.

Mt. Vernon scored with 38 second left in the 1st quarter.  Oak Harbor had just stopped the  Bulldogs on a 4th down play at the 7 yard line, but a fumble on the 2nd play gave MV the ball on the OH 1.

There was no other scoring until 6:55 left in the game, when Princeton Lollar broke away down the near side for a 72-yard scoring run.

Mt. Vernon had a chance to score once more.  They were down to the OH 13 yard line and were going for it on a 4th and 1 play, but the Bulldogs were called for a false start not once, but twice, to make it 4th and 11, and when they attempted to pass, the Wildcat defense stepped up and recorded the sack.

In the overtime period, MV got the ball first, ran 4 plays, and did not get a first down.

Oak Harbor ran 5 plays in their OT possession, the last play a 7-yard run for pay dirt and the victory.

Final: Oak Harbor 13, Mt. Vernon 7.  It was the first win of the season for the short-handed freshman squad.
