FB 2013-10-23 Freshmen vs Getchell

Wednesday, after a late start due to the opponent not arriving in time due to transportation issues, it was a case of score early, score often as the Wildcat freshman football team defeated the visiting Getchell Chargers 47-15.

The scoring started not quite 3 minutes into the game when Princeton Lollar scored from 10 yard out.  Then, with 1:33 left, JJ Mitchell squirted his way to pay dirt from 17 yards out to make it 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Getchell got on the board early in the 2nd quarter, scoring on a 4-yard pass then passing again for the PAT, cutting the Wildcat lead to 13-8.

Not to worry.  Just for minutes later it was Lollar again, this time from 7 yards out, then late in the quarter a promising Getchell drive was cut short by a Farar interception at midfield.

The half ended with OH leading 19-8.

To start the second half, Oak Harbor needed only 2 plays to find the end zone, getting a TD on a 37-yard Lollar run.

MG got deep into Wildcat territory, and facing a 4th and 2 at the OH 9, opted to go for the first down.  Not a good choice.  First, the Chargers were called for a false start, making it 4-7 at the 14, then the pass to the corner of the end zone went wide and was incomplete.  Ten plays later, it was Lollar once again, sprinting for a 45 yard touchdown as time expired in the 3rd quarter.

At the end of 3, OH 33 MG 8.

Yet another Getchell drive was squashed by the Wildcat defense.  This time a fumble forced by Sam Zook and recovered by Mecom.

This time it looked like an OH drive might be stopped, but on 4th and 7 near midfield, McIntyre looked like he was stopped after gaining just a couple of yards, but kept the feet moving and found the first down marker.  The end result?  Another Lollar TD, this one for 37 yards.

Mecom recovered another fumble on Getchell's first play of their next drive, and this time it was Dausey for the score from a yard out.

Getchell got one late score.  With 1:33 left in the game the MG quarterback found a wide open receiver for a 56-yard scoring play.

In the end, it was Oak Harbor 47, Getchell 15.
