In Monday's varsity tennis match at home against Lake Stevens, the Wildcats could only pull out two victories, both in singles. #2 Erin Neilon won in 3 sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and #4 Cady O'Dell won 6-2, 6-2. A non-counting OH win was in an extra doubles match, won 6-3, 6-4 by the team of Jordan Faralan and Jessica James.
Down at Lake Stevens, the JV girls were playing what was probably their best match of the season. Although Lake Stevens won 4-3, it wasn't decided until the final point of Michelle Maxwell's #3 match. It was an exceptionally long match, being the last to finish of the day. Michelle won the first set 7-6 after 3 tiebreakers, then lost 5-7 in the 2nd. In the final match, after a lot of back-and-forth scoring, Lake Stevens put the match away with a 10-7 3rd set win.
Coach Brown also noted the hard-fought win by Jenninfer Bowers and Cassie Gianino at the #1 doubles spot. They lost their first 6-7 in 6 tiebreakers, then won the 2nd set 6-3 and the tiebreak set 10-8. Molly Van Dam and Joyce Abides had an impressive 8-6 win in an extra doubles match.
Other winners that day were Russian exchange student Kate Kapitanova (7-6, 7-5), Audrey Andoy (6-2, 6-1), Kim Kerly and Ashley Leslie (8-6), and Mckenzie McCormack and Jordan Trask (8-1).
We were at the JV track meet at Lake Stevens HS, so were able to get a few photos of the JV tennis girls in action. Those photos are posted HERE.
