Track 4-11 at Monroe

The Oak Harbor track and field team had another successful day of running, jumping and throwing at Monroe HS.

Wildcat boys won 6 of the 18 events, had 18 to-3 finishes, and finished 1-2 in the 100 and 800 meter races.

The girls won 10 of 19 events, with 22 girls finishing in the top 3, and a 1-2 finish in the shot put.

In field events, Seniors Ben Page and Alicia Christianson both attempted the pole vault for the first time this year, with Ben clearing 8-6 and Alica 7 feet even. Senior Hope Thompson finished 2nd in the high jump with a new personal best 4-8. Freshman Dominique (DJ) Jackson threw the discus for first place with a new personal best of 79’ – over 3 feet further than her previous best, and 19 feet further than her first attempt this year. Senior Becky Freeman was just over a foot shorter with her own personal best 77-8 and 2nd place. Rashaad Smith and Greg Goebel were first and second in the triple jump, with Rashaad hitting a PR 40-10 and Greg adding over a foot to his previous best, clearing 40-7. Donovan Hunt looked good in the long jump, clearing 20 feet and winning the event for the 2nd time this season.

Runners also excelled, with the combo of Stephen Lewis and Hunt finishing 1-2 in the 100m dash, just .13 seconds apart. Lewis was also part of the winning 4x400 relay. Freshman Josiah Miller also did well, finishing 4th overall in the race. Hunt won the 200m and was a member of the 2nd place 4x100 relay.

Senior Josh Duhrkopf won the 800 meters with a personal best 2:05, with junior Cody Klauer less than a second behind in 2nd place. Duhrkopf went on to finish 2nd in the 1600 meters.

On the girls side, junior Shantae Young continued her sweep of the 100m dash, winning the event for the 3rd time in 3 meets. Abby Leete totally dominated the 3200 meter race, finishing in a time of 12:13, over a minute faster than the 2nd place competitor. Sophomore Allison Duvenez won the 300m hurdles convincingly, over a second faster than 2nd place. The girls also cleaned up in the relays, winning the 4x100 and 4x400 events and finishing 2nd in the 4x200.
