Dejon Devroe was in a hurry to get to the medal stand.
Hurtling
around his home track oval Thursday, the Oak Harbor High School senior
won three events, setting season bests in all three, then won again as a member of the winning 4x400 relay team, along with Josiah Welch, Jared Grey and Mac Nuanez.
Facing off
with the best Lake Stevens could throw at him, Devroe strolled to wins
in the 100 (11.68 seconds), 200 (23.15) and 400 (49.46). The 400 was a
PR.
While Devroe was the headliner, Oak Harbor had another pair
of double event winners in distance runners Jonalynn Horn and John
Rodeheffer, but not enough depth to topple Lake Stevens in the team
point race.
The Vikings cruised to a 95-50 win in the boys' battle and a 92.5-57.5 victory over the Wildcat girls.
Horn and Rodeheffer did their best to bolster the 'Cats, with Horn taking the 1600 (5:28.41) and 3200 (11:31.44).
Her male counterpart threw downs wins in the 1600 (4:23.22) and 3200 (9:48.85) as well.
Oak
Harbor's girls squad had three other individual wins, with Kaylee Lamb
taking the shot put (32 feet, four inches), Claire Anderson notching a
win in the high jump (5-0) and Hayley Lundstrom topping the field in the
long jump (15-10).
The Wildcats have the week off from competition before returning to action on April 13th with an all-comers meet at Arlington. The varsity squad gets back into action on April 16th at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville and returns home on April 30th for a tri-meet against Stanwood and Everett.
