Boys Basketball update

The Oak Harbor varsity boys team played 3 times over the break, with a game at Mariner on 12/27, then a tournament at Mt. Vernon on 12/29 and 30, with the JV and Freshman teams playing only at Mariner.

At Mariner, things did not go well for the Oak Harbor boys, as all 3 teams fell.

The Freshmen game was back and forth, with both teams holding leads at various times through the game, but in the end the Marauders were able to hold off the 'Cats for a 57-49 win.  Matt Jones led the team with 13 points and Ozell Jackson was also in double figures with 10.  Jordan Bell got 8, Taeson Hardin and Westin Whitefoot 4 each, Gabe Salinger and Noah Herrera 2 each and Joseph Arinaza 1.

The JV game ended with a 67-52 Mariner victory.  Josh Cote was on fire, draining 29 points, 16 in the first half.  James Lage added 8, Justin Ellison 5, Princeton Lollar 3 and Ty Baker, Kurtis Zylstra and Preston Rankin with 2 each.  Adam Nelson added a free throw to complete the Wildcat scoring.

Mariner's varsity team was pumped up and ready for the game, coming out hard and never letting up as they beat Oak Harbor 75-39.  Dyllan Harris scored 13 to lead the team, with Zach Jones adding 9 more.  Sean Erskine scored 6, Preston Rankin 5, Diangelo McKinney and Ben Fikse 2 each, and Jake Sturdevant and Bryce Diras 1 each.

Two days later the varsity squad was at Mt. Vernon High School for the Bulldog Holiday Classic.

Monday's game was against Sedro-Woolley and the second against Mt. Vernon.  In the Sedro game, the Oak Harbor offense couldn't get going as the 'Cats fell 71-43.  In the Mt. Vernon game, OH scored a season-high 60 points, but allowed 74, and finished in 4th place.

The boys play 3 of their next 4 games at home.  They travel to Stanwood on Friday to open league play, then are at home on January 13th against Arlington, the 16th against Getchell and 19th vs Ferndale.
