Wrestling 2015-01-09 vs Pilchuck

Oak Harbor hosted the first of only 3 home wrestling meets Thursday evening, hosting the #8 ranked Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks.  Oak Harbor is ranked #11.

Both team feature 4 state-ranked wrestlers, and the first bout of the night in the varsity matchup featured #3 Mark Johnston vs #5 Keith Pablo.  As expected, it was a tight match and right until the final buzzer of the 3rd round, could have gone either way.  Johnston won, but it was by a very close 6-4 score.

The next 4 matches all went to MP, and all by pin, giving the Tommies a large 24-3 lead.

Oak Harbor got back on the board with Jackson Constant at 285 lbs.  This was a slow-motion match with a tall Constant going up against a much shorter opponent, and he just couldn't get a grip for a throwdown.  In the end, Jackson earned a point due to his opponent stalling, then got a 2-point takedown near the end of the match for a 3-0 win.

Then it was 3 straight MP wins, but Oak Harbor won 3 of the final four to close the gap.  Freshman Michael Lym, at 126 pounds, took just under 1 minute to pin his foe.

Saved by the buzzer to end the 1st round, sixth-ranked Christian Bertram's opponent got pinned near the end of the 2nd round.

#1 ranked Jeremy Vester could not get the pin, but did get a 15-0 technical fall in the 2nd period.

Dymond Piper, recently moved to Oak Harbor, have the Wildcats their final win with a 16-7 victory.

The final team scores were Oak Harbor 26, Pilchuck 45.

JV action started out in the main gym, but with a large number of wrestlers, some matches were moved into the mat room so varsity action could start on time.

JV winners, all winning by pin, were Caitlin Woodworth, Aaron Fletcher, Eriq Boler, Michael Corfman, Colton Burdick and Sam Zook.

Zook needed just 25 seconds for his pin and Corfman was even faster, needing only 20 seconds.

This weekend the varsity squad heads to Snohomish for the annual Panther Classic, then the whole team travels to Arlington on the 15th before hosting Everett on January 23rd.
