Wrestling 2015-01-03 - Everett Tournament

Last Saturday, the Wildcat wrestling team put all four ranked wrestlers on the podium, with two champions at a tournament at Everett High School.

Christian Bertram, currently ranked #6 at 126 pounds, won 11-2, 10-9 and 10-3 to put him in the 126 lb championship match.  There he faced the current #1 wrestler at 120 pounds, and while close, lost 3-0 to claim 2nd place.

Jeremy Vester, the #1 wrestler at 138 lbs won four straight, pin, 8-0, 12-5, and 8-6 to win the bracket.  His championship win was over the #9 ranked wrestler in the state.

Mark Johnston, current #3 at 160 pounds weighed in for the tournament at 152, and won by pin, 15-0, and 17-7 to get to the final.  There he faced the #6 wrestler at 152 and fell 5-4 for 2nd place.

Jackson Constant, ranked #9 at 285 lbs, had a first-round bye, then won by pin, 11-8 and won the final 9-1.

Also in the heavyweight bracket was Sam Zook and Tyler Adamson.

Tyler won his first two matches by pin, lost his 3rd by pin, then won his final match 3-2 to tie for 3rd.

The person he tied with was Sam.  After losing his first match 6-3, Sam recorded 4 straight pins to get on the podium with his teammates.

The 'Cats have their first home meet this coming Thursday, January 8th against Marysville Pilchuck.  It should be an exciting evening, as the Tomahawks come in ranked 9th in the state while the Wildcats are 11th.  Both team feature 4 ranked wrestlers, and depending on how the weigh-ins go, there could be a pair of ranked wrestlers going head-to-head.

Jeremy Vester could face off against #11 Ryan Daurie at 138 lbs, and Mark Johnston could face #5 Keith Pablo at 160.

Don't make any plans for this Thursday and come to OHHS to root for your team!
