Wrestling 2015-01-15 at Arlington

Competing in yet another away dual meet, the Wildcats met up with the Arlington Eagles Thursday night in a very close meet.

Starting with the JV squad (not many matches due to a small Eagle JV squad, Oak Harbor's Aketch and Margraf both won, with Aketch winning 12-2 and Margraf 17-8.

Some photos from JV matches are posted HERE.

The varsity meet started at 152 lbs, and Mark Johnston got the night off to a good start with a 2nd round pin, then Daunte Williamson picked up another 6 team points by getting a forfeit.

Arlington then reeled off 3 straight wins to take an 18-16 lead.  At 220 pounds, junior Austin Taylor, in his first varsity match, pinned his opponent in less than a minute.  Tyler Adamson added another pin 42 seconds later to put the Wildcats back up 24-16.

Dropping to the lightweights, Sophomore Isabel Garcia earned an 11-0 major decision to increase the team lead to 27-16.

Arlington then got 4 straight wins to retake the lead 34-27 with only 2 matches to go.

The second-to-last wrestler was #1 ranked Jeremy Vester.  Although he did not get the 6-point pin, Jeremy did get a 5-point Technical Fall in the 2nd round to close the gap to 34-32.

Dymond Piper, the last wrestler for the day, needed only a victory of some kind to secure the team win.  He did it by pinning his opponent with just 6 seconds remaining in the 1st round, enabling the Wildcats to win 38-34.
