OHMS boys basketball vs Cascade MS 1/15/09

The Oak Harbor Middle School boys basketball team has been busy since the end of Christmas break, playing 4 games between the 6th and 15th of January.

On the 6th, the teams played at North Whidbey Middle School. OHMS crushed NWMS in the 7th grade game 59-8 while the OHMS 8th grade team pulled out a close victory over the Cougars 47-45.

January 13th saw Burlington-Edison come to OHMS with both games going to the Tigers. The 7th grade score was 73-35 and the 8th grade team score was 53-27. Although both the 7th and 8th grade teams were beaten handily, both improved from the first meeting with the Tigers. Coach Marshall was impressed with the effort the 8th grade team put out in that game.

OHMS and NWMS met again on the 14th, the 2nd of 3 straight days of basketball. The 7th grade score was similar to the score on the 6th – 59-10. The OHMS team shut out the NWMS team in both the 1st and 4th periods. The 8th grade game was again close, but NWMS won this one, 46-35.

Finally, in games vs Cascade Middle School on the 15th, both teams provided entertaining and exciting play. The 7th grade game came down to the final seconds. With just 15 seconds left in the game, OHMS held a 1-point lead after leading 23-14 at the half and 31-24 after 3 periods. The Panthers were able to hold on for those final seconds and won the game 39-38. The 8th grade game was very physical and fouls mounted up quickly for both teams. OHMS led in the 1st 11-5, and at the half were down only 2, 21-19. It was still close at the end of the third, 35-31, but the Panthers were only able to put 5 more points on the board while allowing 10 by Cascade, who won the game 45-36.

No video from the Cascade game, but lots of photos.
