Timeout with... Corey Trimbur

Corey Christian Trimbur is a sophomore on the OHHS wrestling team. He was born at the Oak Harbor Naval Hospital on May 12th, and has lived in Oak Harbor his entire life. He is the son of Gene, who works at a dairy and is a member of the US Army Reserve, and Michelle, who works for Island Disposal. Corey has two brothers, Chad, 18 and Caleb, 21.

Corey is a decent student with mostly “B” grades. His favorite class has been middle school health with Mr. Smith, as he really enjoyed the group setting and Mr. Smith was very helpful.

In addition to wrestling, Corey also plays football in the fall. When asked why he wrestles, Corey said it keeps him fit for football, and he enjoys the challenge. He feels his strength on the mat is his speed, but he wants to improve his skills when he’s the bottom wrestler. His wrestling goal for the year is to be the varsity wrestler at every meet for the rest of the year. Wrestling, unlike other sports, has no set JV or varsity. Any wrestler in a weight class can challenge the current varsity wrestler, and the winner of a wrestle-off wins the varsity position. Wrestling is one of the few sports where you can find a freshman on varsity and a senior on JV in the same weight class.

His most memorable sports moment to date didn’t involve only him. He recalls being in a particularly unusual position and someone got a great picture of it. Outside of sports, he says his most memorable moment came after Corey came home from a Christmas trip to see his father in Kentucky. He says he’ll never forget the expression of happiness on his mother’s face when she saw him.

When he’s not on the mat, Corey likes watches movies (Quarantine is one of his favorites), and sitting in front of the TV (usually Family Guy).

Right now, Corey doesn’t have any post-high school plans, but says if he does land that dream job, his dream place to do it would be Hawaii.

Something you probably didn’t know about Corey: He can flip his eyelids inside out.
