Timeout with...Tina Alter, Wrestling

Christina Lynn Alter (Tina) is a senior on the OHHS wrestling team, in the 160-lb weight class. She was born January 24th in Yokosuka, Japan and has lived in Oak Harbor since 1994. She is the daughter of Nimfa, a manicurist, and Gene, a Master Mechanic. She has two sisters, Natalie, 24 and Cassy, 16.

The solid “C” student likes her Sports Medicine class, as it has two things she likes – learning anatomy and helping others. Of course, her favorite teacher so far has been Mr. Reed, who she says makes learning fun.

She is in her 4th year on the wrestling team, and is one of the few sports that requires little running, which suits her just fine. She decided to give wrestling a try back in middle school, when she and some of her friends were play wrestling, and she was beating everyone else. She has set a goal of at least getting to the girls state tournament at the Tacoma Dome in March. She’s also active in judo and likes to watch ‘real’ wrestling on those rare occasions when it’s on TV. She’s not much on spectator sports, but does like to watch people she knows when they play their sport, so she can be found in the gym or stadium cheering for her friends in other sports. Her most memorable sports moment came in her freshman year, when the coach told her she was the first girl ever to complete an entire wrestling season without quitting. Tina says she was actually quite shocked when she found out.

Tina likes rock music, and will watch just about any musical movie. A couple of her favorite movies are “Little Nicky” and “Aladdin”. On TV, she LOVES “House”, and also likes to watch “Bleach”. She can often be found in the company of longtime boyfriend Ben Page.

After high school, Tina thinks she would like to become a massage therapist or athletic trainer. Her dream job would be working for the men’s national soccer team, or some other national team in an Olympic sport.
