Wrestling vs Arlington - 1/7/09

It was not a good week for Oak Harbor vs Arlington sports. On Tuesday, both the boys and girls freshmen, JV and varsity basketball teams all lost to their Eagle counterparts, and the Arlington streak continued Wednesday with a 45-20 win over the wrestling team.
Oak Harbor put 15 JV wrestlers on the mat, and won 9 of the matches. Several matches were very exciting, starting with Justin Everett at 152 lbs vs Himmelspach. At the end of the 1st period it was 10-2 against Justin, and with the score 12-2 in the 2nd Justin got an opening, scored a reverse, and got the pin at the 3:54 mark. Another come-from-behind winner was Josh Schrum, who was down 5-2 before pinning Thompson in 1:48. Pins were also recorded by Jaron Strickland, Gabe Dye, Tucker Lundstrom, Alec Castillo and Collin Higinbotham. Steven Souza scored an 8-2 win and Hunter Vail beat Irwin 12-0.
Varsity started with the 215 lb weight class, Jarrod Green moving up to varsity in place of Chris Neumiller. Jarrod wrestled hard, but got pinned. The Wildcats had to forfeit at 285lbs, but received a forfeit at 103. Next up was Corey Trimbur at 112 lbs. Corey actually weighs only about 95 lbs, so he was giving up some poundage to Reandea. It didn’t matter, as Corey was able to stick him in 4:53. Royce Cardwell beat Goheen 8-5 and Connor Zimmerman (who is leaving OH at the end of the year to move to Maryland) beat Amundson 21-8.
Things were looking good for the Wildcats with a 19-12 team lead, but Arlington won the next 4 matches and 6 of the final 8 matches, including an unexpected pin of John Tuttle. Late in the meet Jarred Tyson beat McPherson 11-5 and Zach Loescher beat Henderson 8-6 to add some points to the OH total.
The wrestling team is scheduled to wrestle at home against Stanwood on Friday, Jan 9th, but with the flooding in the Stanwood area, including canceled school on Jan 8th, the meet may possibly be canceled on short notice.
