Timeout with...Matt Bolte - Boys Swimming

Matt Diedrich Bolte is a junior on the OHHS swim team, specializing in sprint races. He was born December 21st in Winter Park, FL and has lived in Oak Harbor since 1995. He is the son of Becky, a librarian at the OH library. He is an only child.

The A-B student loves his math classes, as he finds math an easy subject, being very logical and following set rules. He favorite teacher so far has been Mr. Plumly at NWMS, as he is a ‘good guy’ and as an athlete himself, understands the athlete’s motivations.

Matt likes swimming as it’s an individual sport, and requires a high level of fitness. He feels his strongest stroke is his freestyle, and would like to improve his butterfly. His swimming goal this year is to get to districts in the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 100 fly. In addition to swimming, Matt is a key member of the Cross Country team, and will be running the 800 meters this spring in track. On the side, he likes to get to the mountains and get in some snowboarding whenever possible. One of his most memorable sports moments occurred last year when, as a sophomore, he went to districts in swimming.

Matt usually listens to Alt rock and gangsta rap, and his favorite movie is “A Knight’s Tale”. When he has a chance to watch TV, he can be found watching “Scrubs”, often with new girlfriend Ellie Silveira.

He doesn’t have any post high school plans at this time, but would like to be able to travel. When asked if there was anyplace in particular he would like to live, he said Australia, because “I like their accents”.

Something you might not know about Matt: “I’m an incredible singer”
