Timeout with...Gabe Dye - Wrestling

Gabriel Emmanuel Dye is a freshman on the OHHS wrestling team in the 140-lb weight class. He was born March 27th in San Diego, CA and this is only his 2nd year in Oak Harbor. Gabe also lived in Wisconsin, Illinois and Virginia in addition to California. He is the son of Tonya, a manager at Starbucks and Josh, a personal trainer. Gabe is the oldest of 6 boys.

Gabe’s favorite subjects are math, as he finds it easy, and PE, because it’s fun. He really enjoyed his class with Mr. Nurvic last year at NWMS, as Mr. Nurvic was very helpful.

Gabe wrestled in middle school but at OHHS, originally tried out for basketball. He got cut from the team and moved into the mat room, and has done well. He likes wrestling as its not so much a team as a family. He’s set a goal for himself of getting to districts and advancing far enough to go to regionals.

In addition to wrestling, Gabe was on the football team, and in the spring will move into freestyle/Greco-roman wrestling. You can also find Gabe on the slopes with his snowboard when he has the time, or if the opportunity presents itself, on a surfboard. His most memorable sports moment happened back in Wisconsin, when on a youth football team he had the longest touchdown run in team history.

In music, Gabe likes a variety styles, including hip-hop, R&B and rock. His favorite movie of all time is “Rocky”, and he loves watching reruns of “Friends”. Gabe says his most memorable life moment came 5 years ago when his twin brothers were born.

He doesn’t have any plans after school, but would like to live in the greater Los Angeles area due to the sheer variety and volume of work available.
