Wrestling vs Stanwood, 1-27-2009 - Senior Night

It was Senior Night last Tuesday as the Wildcat wrestlers hosted the Cascade Bruins in a dual meet.

There were 10 JV matches, 9 of them won by pinfall. The two teams split the matches, each winning 5. The Oak Harbor JV winners were Ben Pralle, a 1st-year wrestler, who got his first pin of the year, over Jackson in 1:29. Ian Cardwell scored an 18-2 tech. fall over Anmen, Matt Bistline pinned Redford in 3:04, Justin Everett, in a hard-fought match was able to pin Nguyen in 3:48, and Hunter Vail took only 55 seconds to pin Saunders. Jaron Strickland, Zach Van Pelt, David Payne and Phil Rodgers also saw mat time against Stanwood opponents. There was on exhibition match, with two OH wrestlers, Jesse Tucker and Nick Farrell going against each other. Nick was able to get a in with just 4 seconds left in the 2nd period.

Before the start of the varsity match, time was taken to recognize the senior wrestlers and their parents. The 9 seniors were Tina Alter, Matt Bistline, Royce Cardwell, Jarrod Green, Brian Howard, Kyle Magana, Ben Page, John Tuttle and Jarred Tyson. These seniors are the first group that started at freshman the same year Coach Crebbin started as Head Coach, so it was an emotional night for all involved.

On the mat, Oak Harbor got things started early, with Brian Howard, recently back from a shoulder injury, pinning Reining in just 1:12, then Sophomore Corey Trimbur at 103 lbs pinned Henshaw in just 36 seconds. Brandon Strickland got a forfeit at 112 lbs, giving OH an early 18-0 lead in the team scores. Freshman Ben Pralle, filling in for an injured Royce Cardwell, took the 119 lb varsity spot, fell to Larsen by pin.

Connar Zimmerman pinned Loehr in 1:43, then two Cascade brothers won back-to-back matches, with Z. Duncan beating Josh Barton 6-2, and L. Duncan getting a 1-point decision in a very close match over Brandon Stratton.

Oak Harbor then got 3 straight wins to secure the team victory. John Tuttle pinned Quinlan in 2:53, Ben Page beat Ho 9-6, and Jarred Tyson pinned M. Ahmad in 1:19. Kyle Magana got pinned by N. Ahmad.

Zach Loescher got a pin over Hjort in 3:29, Jake Lundstrom, in another very close match beat Evans 8-7, and Jarrod Green was pinned in the night’s final match.
