Wrestling at Everett - 1/12/2009

In a makeup dual meet from back in December, the Wildcats were at Everett High School Monday evening and came away winners. The team scores were 34 each, but Oak Harbor was declared the winner on tiebreaker criteria. A lot of credit goes to Brandon Strickland. Normally in the 103lb weight class, Brandon stepped into the 112 pound spot. He did this to avoid giving Everett a forfeit and an automatic 6 team points. Brandon lost by decision, 8-3, but gave only 3 team points to Everett. Another match of note was the final match of the night. Josh Barton lost by major decision, 19-7, but avoided the pin or tech fall to secure the Oak Harbor victory.

The meet started out with Brandon Stratton going into overtime before finally pinning Palabrica give OH the early lead. The next 5 matches were all decided by pins as well, with Ben Page, John Tuttle and Jarred Tyson pinning their opponents and Kyle Magana and Zach Loescher getting pinned. At 189 lbs Jake Lundstrom lost a 6-1 decision, Jarred Green got pinned at 215 as did Phil Rodgers making his varsity debut. Back to the lighter weights, Corey Trimbur won his match by a low 2-0 score, Royce Cardwell pinned his opponent at 119 lbs, Connar Zimmerman won 9-0.

The wrestlers will be at home Tuesday, Jan 13th against 3-1 Marysville-Pilchuck and travel to Kelso this weekend for a tournament.
